"Today’s college students are told to find out what they love and do it. Pursue it, make money from it. “Have passion for your work.”  I have learned that the thing you pursue in your life, the thing you chase after like a dog, should be something which will quell you in life’s darkest hours, something which allows your outside to match your inside, something which stays buoyant and graspable when all of the material world has fallen away. But in New York City, I was always being told the opposite; that the thing that would make me most happy was something I would need to purchase for myself."
